Band

High School Band (1.0 Credits, 1 Year)
This course is open to any students with a desire to learn to play a musical instrument.  The purpose of the course is to prepare students to become individual and independent players, as well as be able to play and perform with a group of instrumentalists.  The hope is that students will become proficient enough to continue playing their instruments after they complete high school.  Band members will have a lesson once every six-day cycle.  There will be three concerts every year (Holiday Concert, Spring Concert, and the End of the Year Concert).  In addition students will play at school events such as Pep Rally’s and Morning Program, as well as community events such as Memorial Day.  Students will be assessed on the basis of class participation and concert performance.

Music Appreciation (1.0 Credits, 1 Year)
This course is designed to help students develop an understanding of and appreciation for the many different types of music.  It is an opportunity to learn about one of mankind’s most enduring languages.  The course examines how music is found in every culture and how it can become a form of individual expression.
