Dear Wildcat Parent/Guardian/Caretaker,
Since March 2020, HCSD administrators and staff have worked collaboratively to maintain the continuity of effective instruction and student learning in a safe environment. Now, national, state, and local health guidelines are changing to reflect both our increased knowledge of COVID-19 infection control and the critical need for children to be educated in person.
As a result, the Hancock Central School District will return to in-person instruction.
- PreK-6: Effective Tuesday, February 16, 2021, students will return to school, in person, five days per week. Wednesday remote instruction will end.
- Grades 7-12: Effective Monday, February 22, 2021, students will return to school, in person, four days per week-Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Wednesday remote instruction will continue.
The ’Cat Resurgence plan requires that all infection control procedures and protocols (face coverings, social distancing, handwashing, no use of hall lockers) be maintained. To accommodate the return of all students in Grades 7-12, clear barriers are being installed in the cafeteria and in classrooms. The health, safety, and welfare of our students, staff, and community is our highest priority.
Please contact your student’s building administrator with questions or concerns. Families may request for a student to opt out of in-person instruction on a quarterly basis by
submitting an application (see attachment).
In accordance with the NYS Department of Education, students are expected to attend school every day, whether in person or remote. We will continue to provide safe, effective instruction for our students, and we are excited to welcome them back to in-person learning.
