Congratulations to our latest Students of the Week at HCS!!
Mrs. Vasconi-Smith selected Night Mason for doing a wonderful job lately. Night is friendly, kind, and works hard each day. He always puts his best effort into his work, and it shows!
Ms. Milk selected Maja Noble for being super kind, extremely hard working, and very responsible. Maja never gives up, always has a smile on her face, and is friendly with her peers.
Great job, Night and Maja! Keep up the wonderful work, we are proud of you!
This morning’s Elementary Morning Program was extra sweet! We were excited to welcome Mr. Hull as our special guest, where he shared fascinating information about how maple syrup is made.
Mr. Hull explained the process of producing maple syrup, including how to measure the diameter of maple trees to determine how many spiles can be inserted. Trees that are 10 inches in diameter can have one spile, 20-inch trees can have two, and 30-inch trees can have three.
He even brought several students up to help demonstrate how spiles are inserted into the trees so the sap can flow out and be collected. Students were surprised to learn that it takes about 40 gallons of sap to make just 1 gallon of maple syrup!
Mr. Hull also took time to answer thoughtful questions from our students, making this a fun and interactive learning experience for all.
Thank you, Mr. Hull, for taking the time to share your knowledge with our elementary students today!
We are proud to congratulate Micah Simmons on signing his Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Utica University next year!
Micah will be taking his talents to the next level as a member of the Utica football program while pursuing a degree in Physical Education. This is an incredible accomplishment and a true testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment both on and off the field and in the classroom.
Congratulations, Micah! This opportunity is well deserved, and we can’t wait to see all that you accomplish at the collegiate level.

Mrs. Prescott’s 4th graders recently dove into the world of energy, exploring sound, light, heat, potential and kinetic energy, and more! They brought their learning to life with hands-on activities, including:
• Using volleyballs to see how collisions affect motion
• Observing how food coloring spreads in water at different temperatures, discovering that particles move faster in warmer objects
• Setting up working electrical circuits and testing which objects conduct electricity
Through these experiments, students discovered that most metals conduct electricity, and had a blast learning by doing!

This week, our 4th graders and 1st graders came together to celebrate Read Across America Week!
Students spent valuable time reading with each other, and the excitement on their faces says it all. Our 1st graders especially enjoyed reading with their 4th-grade buddies.
March is also National Reading Month, so we’re celebrating all month long by sharing our love of reading, discovering new books, and spending time with our reading friends. We can’t wait for more reading fun in the weeks ahead!

Join us in the Elementary School tomorrow, Thursday, March 5th, at 8:30 a.m. for our Morning Program! We can’t wait to see our families there and share this special time with you!
In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday this past Monday, Ms. Milk’s 2nd grade class celebrated their annual “Lazy with a Book Day”, spending the entire day sharing their favorite books and enjoying the joy of reading!
Mrs. Hull and Mrs. Karcher’s UPK and Kindergarten classes also joined in the fun! They read The Cat in the Hat and made delicious Cat in the Hat-themed snacks to celebrate.
These activities are part of Read Across America Week, where students across Hancock Central School are celebrating National Reading Month with themed events, cozy reading time, and lots of Seuss-inspired fun!
Here are some pictures that captured the excitement and love of reading!

This week, Hancock Central School is celebrating National School Breakfast Week!
A huge thank you to our amazing food service staff for all that they do to make sure our students start each day fueled and ready to learn. Your hard work and dedication make a big difference in the lives of our students every single day!
Here’s to healthy breakfasts and happy mornings!

Tomorrow, March 5th, we’re excited to celebrate NY Thursdays in our cafeteria! NY Thursdays is a statewide initiative that highlights delicious, locally sourced foods grown and produced right here in New York. It’s a great way to support our local farmers and businesses while providing our students with fresh, high-quality meals.
We are so grateful to our wonderful food service staff for the care and dedication they put into preparing nutritious meals for our students each and every day. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, thank you for all that you do!

Greetings Wildcat families!
The Hancock Central School District is proud to, once again, offer a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for the 2026-2027 school year.
This special program is funded by a New York State Education Department (NYSED) grant and provides an early learning experience for the children of HCSD residents. Children enrolled in the district’s UPK program will attend class 5 days per week (8:00-2:45), for all 180 days of the educational year. This is the same schedule as Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade students.
In accordance with NYS regulations, the district will hold a lottery to determine who will be awarded the available slots if our number of enrollments exceed the threshold for the 2026-2027 school year. Lottery sign-ups for UPK will begin on Monday March 9th 2026 and continue through Friday, May 8th 2026. If your student is selected, you will be notified by Monday May 11th, 2026.
If you have friends or neighbors with similarly-aged children, please feel free to share the following details with them as well. The Hancock Central School District has a vibrant academic program for our youngest students, designed to foster a love of learning that carries them all the way to graduation and beyond.

Mrs. Hull’s Kindergarten students had a roaring good time learning about the saying, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb!”
The class read In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb and talked about how the weather can be wild and blustery at the beginning of March, then calm and gentle by the end of the month.
To bring the lesson to life, students created adorable lion and lamb crafts and even enjoyed themed lion and lamb snacks! It was a hands-on (and tasty!) way to celebrate the changing seasons while building literacy and creativity skills.
Great job, boys and girls!!

Thank you to all of our families who joined us for Story Hour last night! It was so special to see our elementary students and their loved ones gathered together to enjoy an evening of reading and community. Your support and participation help make events like this such a success.
