SWEET LESSONS IN SMART SPENDING

Mrs. Keller’s 7th grade class had a special visit earlier today from Chrissy and Olivia from Sidney Federal Credit Union (SFCU) !

Students were excited to reconnect, as Chrissy and Olivia previously spoke with them about finances and budgeting. This time, they brought learning to life with a fun Skittles game that helped students practice zero-based budgeting in an engaging, hands-on way.

Thank you, Chrissy and Olivia, for stopping in and continuing to support our students’ financial literacy skills!

ELEVATING STUDENT VOICES

Students from both Deposit Central School District and Hancock Central School District came together yesterday as part of our “Elevating Student Voices” student voice group.

The purpose of this group is to ensure students have direct input into the merger study, share their lived experiences, and reflect on how potential changes may affect them. This group ensures that students — the ultimate beneficiaries of decision-making — are placed at the center of the process. Their insights help shed light on how educational experiences, organizational structures, and fiscal priorities impact learning.

As part of this process, students sat in on a presentation by Cosimo Tangorra Jr., Ed.D., and Scott Bischoping from Leadership Solutions Advisers (LSA). Through thoughtful discussion and open dialogue, students had the opportunity to hear key information and provide their own perspectives.

We are proud of these students for engaging in meaningful conversations, representing their peers, and helping guide this important process. When students are given a seat at the table, their voices truly make a difference.

HANDS-ON LEARNING IN TECHNOLOGY CLASS!

Students in Mrs. Wormuth’s Technology class recently dove into an engaging water filtration experiment! As part of their lesson, students explored the concept of an agrarian society and discussed how early agricultural advancements were once considered cutting-edge technology.

Connecting past innovations to present-day problem solving, students designed their own water filtration systems using a variety of materials and textures. By layering different substances, they were able to observe how each texture helped remove impurities and make the water cleaner.

This hands-on activity encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of how technology, both past and present, shapes the way we live.

Great work, everyone!

BOWLERS COMPETE AT SECTIONALS!

This past weekend, our boys and girls bowling teams represented HCS with pride at the Sectionals tournament held at Midway Lanes in Binghamton.

For the first two games on the boys side, Cooper Wormuth, Holden Dufton, Landon Fuller, Landyn Robinson, and Carter Wormuth took to the lanes and put forth a strong effort for our team. In the final game, Joshua Dunlap stepped in for Cooper, and John D’Elia bowled in place of Landyn, keeping the momentum going through the end of competition.

Competing for our girls team were Cherish Wright, Livian Robinson, Emrehe Ellis, and Kendall Whitehead, who also did a fantastic job representing Hancock at this high level of competition.

We are incredibly proud of both our boys and girls teams for their hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication throughout the season. Competing at Sectionals is a tremendous accomplishment, and they represented our school community exceptionally well.

KINDNESS AT MORNING PROGRAM!

During today’s Morning Program, Mrs. Hull spoke with students about the importance of kindness and why it truly matters. Students watched a short video that highlighted three important parts of being kind: kind actions, kind words and kind thoughts.

We discussed how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day, and in our school community as a whole.

We also reviewed what our Triple B Awards stand for: Be Kind, Be Respectful and Be Responsible! We are proud to recognize students who consistently demonstrate these important values.

Congratulations to Beckett Dabrescia-McGraw, Elizabeth Conkling, Paeton Dunlap, Cristian Sparacio, Cora Thomason and Leeann Miller on being selected for the Triple B awards!!
