Congratulations to Olivia Esolen, who was crowned 2025 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the D-H Eagles football game against Walton-Downsville this past Friday night!
We’d also like to recognize all of this year’s Homecoming Queen nominees — Stevie Woodmansee, Gwyneth Nebzydoski, Autumn Dohanic, and Cambry Cobb — for representing their classes with pride and school spirit!
Hancock Central School was filled with energy and excitement today as students gathered for the annual Fall Pep Rally! The event celebrated our fall sports teams and student-athletes, showcasing the hard work and dedication they’ve displayed throughout the season.
A special thank you goes out to our talented band, beginning chorus, and high school chorus for their spirited performances that energized the crowd. We’d also like to thank our Student Council for their leadership and coordination in making today’s pep rally a success.
During the celebration, we proudly crowned our Homecoming royalty — congratulations to Prince Preston Johnston, Princess Bryleigh Drumm, and King Noah Bass!
Students and staff joined in the fun with a variety of games, including musical chairs, pie facing, and tug of war — all adding to the lively, school-spirited atmosphere.
It was an excellent pep rally filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and Wildcat pride. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it such a memorable event.
We look forward to seeing everyone again this evening as our D-H Eagles take on Walton at 7:00 p.m. Senior recognition for our football players will begin at 6:30 p.m., and our Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime.

Today marks the final day of Spirit Week, and our students and staff are proudly showing off their D-H Eagles gear for D-H Nation Day! The halls are filled with blue and white as we wrap up an exciting week of school spirit leading into tonight’s Homecoming Game vs. Walton at 7:00 p.m.
Senior Recognition will take place before the game at 6:30 p.m., as we honor our senior athletes for their hard work and dedication.
Our Homecoming Pep Rally will be held today from 12:15–1:45 p.m. in the MS-HS gym, where we’ll crown this year’s Homecoming Prince, Princess, and King!
Then, during halftime of tonight’s game, we’ll crown our 2025 Homecoming Queen!
Let’s bring the energy, celebrate our seniors, and show what it means to be D-H Strong!
What a fantastic evening in Hancock! Our Homecoming Parade was a huge hit, with incredible floats, smiling faces, and school spirit shining bright throughout the community. Following the parade, a great crowd gathered at Fireman’s Park for the bonfire, where the excitement and energy continued!
It was wonderful to see our community spirit in full force, cheering on the D-H Eagles and celebrating together.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made the night possible - our HCS Student Council, all classes and class advisors who built amazing floats, the Hancock Fire Department, Village of Hancock Police Department, Town of Hancock Ambulance, the D-H Gridiron Club, D-H Youth Football, all of our Veterans, and anyone else we may have missed.
Your support and participation made this Homecoming celebration one to remember!

Homecoming Spirit Week rolled on yesterday at Hancock Central School with one of everyone’s favorite themes, Pajama Day! Students and staff showed their school spirit in the most comfortable way possible, arriving to class dressed in cozy flannel pants, fuzzy slippers, and colorful sleepwear.
The relaxed atmosphere brought plenty of smiles as Wildcats embraced the fun of learning in lounge wear. From matching pajama sets to silly robes and slippers, creativity and comfort were on full display throughout both buildings.
Spirit Week continues with Red, White & Blue Day, followed by DH Nation Day to close out the week’s Homecoming festivities. Go Wildcats!

Last night, the HCS gym was filled with excitement as we celebrated our three senior volleyball players: Stevie Woodmansee (Hancock), Matthew Colletti, and Asher Shewring (Deposit), during Senior Recognition Night!
These outstanding student athletes have shown incredible dedication, leadership, and teamwork throughout their volleyball careers. We thank them for their hard work, spirit, and commitment to the Deposit-Hancock program.
The evening also featured great competition in both the JV and Varsity matches against Sidney, with fans cheering loud and proud for DH Nation!

Yesterday’s Twin Day brought plenty of laughter and creativity as friends, classmates, and even teachers matched outfits to become “twins” for the day. From matching flannels and jerseys to identical hairstyles and accessories, the halls of HCS were filled with fun lookalikes showing school spirit and unity.
Spirit Week continues with more exciting themes, including Pajama Day, Red, White & Blue Day, and DH Nation Day to close out the week. The enthusiasm and participation from students and staff are setting the tone for a spirited and memorable Homecoming celebration!

Yesterday, representatives from SUNY Broome Community College visited Hancock Central School to introduce the College Express program to our 12th-grade students. This initiative offers all HCS seniors an opportunity to pursue higher education at SUNY Broome in the upcoming academic year.
The College Express program is designed to streamline the college application process for high school seniors. Through this partnership, students can apply and receive instant acceptance to SUNY Broome, eliminating common barriers to college enrollment. In addition to immediate admission, students gain access to various support services, including academic advising, financial literacy workshops, and assistance with course registration.
By participating in College Express, HCS seniors can embark on their college journey with confidence, knowing they have a place at SUNY Broome awaiting them. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both Hancock Central School and SUNY Broome to provide accessible and supportive pathways to higher education for our students.

Wednesday night at HCS, our Deposit-Hancock Varsity Volleyball team battled hard in a thrilling MAC match-up against Afton-Harpursville, narrowly falling 3 2. The set scores were: 25-23, 25-27, 25-14, 15-25, 15-9.
Standout performances included:
• Ivy Tice: 13 service points with 3 aces
• Haley Begeal: 8 service points
Our D-H Eagles showed incredible determination and teamwork, making every set a hard-fought battle.
Senior Recognition Alert: Come cheer on our varsity volleyball seniors this Tuesday, October 14, as they take on Sidney at HCS. JV starts at 5:00 PM, followed by senior recognition and the varsity match.
The MAC Golf Championships were this Tuesday, held at Maple Hill GC in Marathon, NY. Congratulations to Oxford, who won the championships with a +97 score as a team to secure the title. Deposit-Hancock finished 5th, with only 10 strokes separating them (+132) from 2nd place finishers, Sidney (+122).
We would also like to recognize and congratulate Wyatt Persbacker, as he was chosen to the MAC 2nd Team All Star team. Great work and a solid year for Wyatt, as well as the rest of our D-H golfers!
Tonight, 10/9, will be Golf’s senior recognition at French Woods golf course, where we will honor the team and our two Deposit seniors, Zack Hogan and Grady Tiffany!
Just a quick reminder about some upcoming dates:
Tomorrow - Thursday, October 9, 2025, is a scheduled Early Release Drill. We will be dismissing 15-minutes early at 2:30 p.m.
There will be no school for students this Friday, October 10th (Superintendent's Conference Day).
Also, there is no school for students and staff on Monday, October 13, in observance of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day.

• Parade: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, starting at 5:30 p.m., from HCS to Fireman's Park
This will coincide with the bonfire that is being hosted by the DH Gridiron Club over at Fireman’s Park
• Pep Rally: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 12:15 - 1:45 p.m. - MS/HS Gymnasium
-The prince, princess and King will be announced at the pep rally on Friday, 10/17. The Homecoming queen will be announced at the homecoming game on 10/17, which will begin at 7:00 p.m.

HCS Smart Schools Public Hearing- 2025
A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 5:45 p.m. in the Elementary School PD Room, prior to the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting.
This hearing provides an opportunity for community members to share feedback and suggestions regarding the Hancock Central School District Smart Schools Investment Plan.

Our UPK and Kindergarten students enjoyed the seasonal story The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming and Nicola Slater today!
After reading, the classes discussed what happens to the leaves in the fall, then got creative with some hands-on activities. The students made edible fall trees and created story sequence crowns.
What a fun and colorful way to learn about the changing seasons!
