
UPK STUDENTS SHOW OFF THEIR WORK
Last week, our Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) students read ‘Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons’, by Eric Litwin. Afterwards, they worked hard creating an edible version of Pete’s coat! Looking good, boys and girls!!











SPIRIT WEEK
As Homecoming approaches, next week will be spirit week for UPK-12th grade at HCS!
Students and staff, we look forward to seeing your outfits and showing off your school spirit!
Homecoming will take place on Friday, September 27, as our D-H Eagles take on Dryden.


K-9TH GRADE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM BEGINS ON MONDAY
The K-9th Grade After School Programs, sponsored by the Hancock Community Education Foundation, open this Monday, September 16th.
The after-school programs are available for all students in Hancock, free of charge and operate from 2:30 PM until 5:30 PM Monday - Friday. Healthy snacks, dinner and transportation are provided daily.
These programs provide a safe and structured environment for students to complete their homework, engage in educational activities, and develop social skills. Additionally, students can participate in various extracurricular activities such as dance, art, sports and robotics.
The week ends with a FUN trip or activity every Friday. Our plans for this year include trips to ice hockey games, cultural restaurants, movies, roller skating, bowling, and more!
Students are eligible to enroll in the program at any time during the school year. They may attend a minimum of 2 days or all 5 days!
If the children do not require transportation home, they may be picked up prior to 5:30 with approval from the program director.
If you would like to enroll your child applications are available on www.hancockeducationfoundation.org under forms and can be returned to the Elementary office for K-4 and Middle School office for 5-9.




D-H GOLF PICKS UP WIN
Congratulations to our D-H Eagles golf team on picking up a victory over Unadilla Valley yesterday at French Woods golf course!
Wyatt Persbacker and Grady Tiffany led the way for Deposit-Hancock, with each shooting a 44. Persbacker had 2 par’s and 1 birdie on the day, with Tiffany adding a par and a birdie. Holden Dufton shot a 46, while Kevin Conklin and Kaden Rynearson each shot a 52.
Nice work, Eagles! D-H is back at French Woods this afternoon, as they take on Greene at 4:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL BATTLES WITH DELHI
Our D-H Eagles JV & Varsity Volleyball teams were in Hancock last night, as they took on Delhi. After falling behind early, our Eagles made a comeback but fell short against a tough Delhi team.
Kendra Terrell had 8 assists for D-H, with Ivy Tice connecting on 7 kills for the evening.
Volleyball is in action again tomorrow, 9/12, in Deposit as they take on Unatego. Good luck!

SCHOOL PICTURES NEXT TUESDAY
Park Studio will be in the district next Tuesday, September 17th, to take school pictures for the 2024-2025 year!
Both Elementary and Middle-High School students will have their school pictures taken, order forms were given to students to bring home in the last few days. Extra forms are available in the Elementary and MS-HS buildings, if needed.

NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY
To celebrate National Read a Book Day this past Friday, our 1st and 4th graders got together to read to each other! They did an excellent job and really enjoyed reading to themselves.

FIELD HOCKEY TAKES TOURNAMENT TITLE
Congratulations to our D-H Eagles Field Hockey team on winning the Windsor InVANNAtational this past weekend!
Deposit-Hancock participated with Walton, Windsor and Spencer Van-Etten in the invitational to kick off the season. On Friday, D-H defeated Walton by a score of 5-2. Amanda Ray led the way with 4 goals for the Eagles, with Sarah Gross contributing another. Leah Wist and Victoria Green each added 2 assists in the victory.
On Saturday, D-H edged Windsor by a score of 2-1 to win the tournament! Nora Bartholomew and Victoria Green each scored a goal for the Eagles, with Darby DeGraw adding an assist.
Deposit-Hancock is in action again this Thursday, as they head to Owego. Nice job!!









WELCOME, MS. AHEARN
Good morning HES Families,
Yesterday was filled with excitement! It was so nice seeing the energy and excitement in the HES building again. It is so quiet over the summer.
Please let me introduce Kathy Ahearn (kahearn@hancock.stier.org) as our substitute elementary nurse. She will be at HES Tuesday-Friday as Ms. Alderman is pursuing her RN degree. Ms. Alderman will be at HES on Monday's.
The same phone number (607) 637-1220 can be called for the elementary nurse's office. Mrs. Ahearn is familiar with HES and our students as she substituted last school year. Welcome Mrs. Ahearn!

Our senior parents came in yesterday evening to decorate their student’s locker and give them a surprise on their first-last day in high school!

After a few days of workshops and trainings, our staff at HCS are anxious and excited to see all of our students back for the 2024-2025 school year!

MEET TRACIE OSTRANDER – OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
We would like to highlight our new staff at HCS, please welcome Tracie Ostrander as our Occupational Therapist! Tracie has been in education for 24 years, working 4 years at BT BOCES and 20 years at Deposit Central School. She serves many roles, as she also is the RTI co-chairperson, special education teacher leader for family engagement, preschool service provider for Delaware County, and treasurer for the teacher’s union.
In her spare time, Tracie enjoys reading and gardening, as well as rooting for her Buffalo Bills! She resides in Hancock and is a 1995 graduate from HCS. Tracie loves working with children and is very excited to be working in Hancock this year!


UPK ORIENTATION
It was nice to see our Pre-K and Kindergarten students earlier today for UPK orientation!
The students and their families had an opportunity to meet their teachers, Mrs. Karcher and Mrs. Hull. They were given time to explore their classrooms and interact with their classmates. Afterwards, Mr. Miller showed them the school bus and took them on a trip around the village!
We look forward to seeing you all again on the opening day of school, next Thursday (September 5).

As we get closer to the first day of school, have a look at our breakfast and lunch offerings for September. Breakfast and lunch will be served at NO COST to our students for the 2024-2025 school year!
