SHARING THE LOVE OF READING ACROSS AGES

Our 4th graders were recently able to make a special visit to the community preschool, and it was well worth the wait! During their time together, our students shared their love of reading with preschoolers and toddlers, creating meaningful connections through stories.

It was a joyful experience for everyone involved, and smiles were seen all around. We are so proud of our 4th graders for being such wonderful reading role models!!

Mrs. Cooper has chosen Madeline Mootz as her Student of the Week. Madelaine has shown tremendous growth each and every day. She asks thoughtful questions, comes to class ready to learn, and isn’t afraid to ask for support when needed.

RUMBLE READERS VISIT BRINGS STORIES TO LIFE!

We would like to extend a big thank you to Amy Fancher, David “Peterman” Peterson, and special guests Ruby and Rumble from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for visiting our elementary school today!

They spent time with our students sharing the exciting Rumble Readers Book Club program, an awesome reading incentive where students can earn a free ticket to a Rumble Ponies game each month by reading 10 books, with the opportunity to earn up to four tickets by the end of the school year.

To kick things off, all of our students were able to check their first book off the list today as Mr. Peterson read “Casey Back at Bat” aloud. Ruby, Rumble, and Ms. Fancher brought the story to life by acting out scenes (our students especially loved the idea of Ms. Fancher dressing up as a hot dog)!

For more information on the Rumble Readers Book Club program, please visit:
https://rumblereaders.com/

Thank you again to the Rumble Ponies and their team for such a fun and engaging visit. Our students had a wonderful time and are excited to keep reading!

THE POWER OF HOPE AT MORNING PROGRAM

Thank you to Mrs. Feeney for speaking with our elementary students at yesterday’s Morning Program about the importance of hope.

Mrs. Feeney engaged students in a thoughtful discussion, asking questions like “What is hope?” and “How does hope help us?” Together, they explored how hope helps us stay positive, encourages us to keep going, and inspires us to work toward change.

Students shared their own examples of being hopeful and discussed why it’s important to maintain a positive mindset. Mrs. Feeney also offered simple but meaningful ways to help others feel hopeful, by using kind words like “You’ve got this!” and by showing respect, such as not laughing at others’ mistakes.

As Mrs. Feeney shared, “Hope isn’t magic, but it helps us take the steps to keep trying, learning, and moving forward. That’s how things actually get better.”

SUPERINTENDENT’S DAY FOCUSES ON INNOVATION, COLLABORATION, AND STUDENT SUPPORT

Last Friday, Hancock Central School staff participated in a meaningful and productive Superintendent’s Day focused on professional growth and collaboration.

A group of our staff traveled to Deposit CSD, where they joined colleagues for engaging presentations on artificial intelligence, hosted by BT BOCES and the SCRIC. These sessions provided valuable insight into the evolving role of AI in education and how it can support teaching and learning. We extend our sincere thanks to Deposit CSD for their hospitality, and to BT BOCES and the SCRIC for their informative and forward-thinking presentations.

Back on campus, HCS staff took part in important work centered on data-driven instruction, collaborating with state representatives to strengthen practices that support student achievement. This work will help to improve student outcomes in all achievement areas. Additionally, Principal Durkot led sessions with staff focused on de-escalation strategies, helping to build skills that support a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

Thank you to everyone involved for making the day a success and for your continued commitment to growth and excellence at HCS!
