FINANCIAL LITERACY

Mrs. Keller’s 7th grade FACS students had a great visit earlier today from SFCU!

Olivia Kenyon, Financial Education Officer, and Melinda MacRabie from the SFCU Hancock branch, stopped by to speak with students about financial literacy and the importance of building strong money habits at a young age. Students learned about budgeting, saving, responsible spending, and how financial choices today can impact their future. The presentation encouraged students to think critically about managing money, setting goals, and making informed decisions.

Thank you to Olivia and Melinda for taking the time to share their knowledge and support our students, we truly appreciate it!

COMPUTER CLUB SPOTLIGHT

Mr. Charles’s Computer Club has been busy exploring uKits during a recent meeting! uKits are hands-on robotics and STEM kits that allow students to build, program, and experiment with real working models.

These kits help students develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while introducing them to engineering and basic coding in a fun, engaging way. It’s a great opportunity for students to learn through creativity and collaboration!

Nice work, students, keep building and learning!

GENETICS IN ACTION

Yesterday, Mr. Torrens’ 7th grade biology class explored genotypes and phenotypes through a fun, hands-on lab! Students learned that a genotype represents the genes for a trait, while a phenotype is the physical appearance of that trait.

Using gummy bears, students modeled how traits are passed from parents to offspring. Each gummy bear color represented a trait, with each “parent” contributing half. After cutting and combining the gummy bears, students tracked how genes were inherited and compared their diagrams to see how genetics influence physical appearance.

A sweet way to make genetics come to life!
