We are excited to recognize our Students of the Week at Hancock Elementary!
Mrs. Robinson has chosen Zayne Walker as her Student of the Week. Zayne comes in every day with a big smile and is always willing to help his classmates whenever they need it. He is a great role model in the classroom and consistently strives to do his best work.
Mrs. Cooper has chosen Madeline Mootz as her Student of the Week. Madelaine has shown tremendous growth each and every day. She asks thoughtful questions, comes to class ready to learn, and isn’t afraid to ask for support when needed.
Congratulations to both students on this well-deserved recognition!
RUMBLE READERS VISIT BRINGS STORIES TO LIFE!
We would like to extend a big thank you to Amy Fancher, David “Peterman” Peterson, and special guests Ruby and Rumble from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for visiting our elementary school today!
They spent time with our students sharing the exciting Rumble Readers Book Club program, an awesome reading incentive where students can earn a free ticket to a Rumble Ponies game each month by reading 10 books, with the opportunity to earn up to four tickets by the end of the school year.
To kick things off, all of our students were able to check their first book off the list today as Mr. Peterson read “Casey Back at Bat” aloud. Ruby, Rumble, and Ms. Fancher brought the story to life by acting out scenes (our students especially loved the idea of Ms. Fancher dressing up as a hot dog)!

Thank you again to the Rumble Ponies and their team for such a fun and engaging visit. Our students had a wonderful time and are excited to keep reading!
We are proud to recognize our Triple B Award winners from yesterday’s Morning Program. Congratulations to Sara Saul, Jacob Bogart, Alejandro Ruiz, Cash Rowe, Liberty Gerchman-Van Loan, and Lylian Mootz!
The Triple B Award represents what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe each and every day at HCS. These students have demonstrated those qualities and set a great example for their peers.
Keep up the great work, we are proud of you!

Thank you to Mrs. Feeney for speaking with our elementary students at yesterday’s Morning Program about the importance of hope.
Mrs. Feeney engaged students in a thoughtful discussion, asking questions like “What is hope?” and “How does hope help us?” Together, they explored how hope helps us stay positive, encourages us to keep going, and inspires us to work toward change.
Students shared their own examples of being hopeful and discussed why it’s important to maintain a positive mindset. Mrs. Feeney also offered simple but meaningful ways to help others feel hopeful, by using kind words like “You’ve got this!” and by showing respect, such as not laughing at others’ mistakes.
As Mrs. Feeney shared, “Hope isn’t magic, but it helps us take the steps to keep trying, learning, and moving forward. That’s how things actually get better.”
Thank you to our Story Hour readers and families for joining us for last night’s Story Hour!
Students had a great time sitting together to enjoy stories, and even had the opportunity to read a few stories to our Story Hour readers as well.
To wrap up the night, each student was able to select a brand new book to take home. What a great way to keep the love of reading going. We truly appreciate your support!
Last Friday, Hancock Central School staff participated in a meaningful and productive Superintendent’s Day focused on professional growth and collaboration.
A group of our staff traveled to Deposit CSD, where they joined colleagues for engaging presentations on artificial intelligence, hosted by BT BOCES and the SCRIC. These sessions provided valuable insight into the evolving role of AI in education and how it can support teaching and learning. We extend our sincere thanks to Deposit CSD for their hospitality, and to BT BOCES and the SCRIC for their informative and forward-thinking presentations.
Back on campus, HCS staff took part in important work centered on data-driven instruction, collaborating with state representatives to strengthen practices that support student achievement. This work will help to improve student outcomes in all achievement areas. Additionally, Principal Durkot led sessions with staff focused on de-escalation strategies, helping to build skills that support a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
Thank you to everyone involved for making the day a success and for your continued commitment to growth and excellence at HCS!

Hancock Central School Guidance Counselor Mrs. Feeney and School Social Worker Miss Phoenix have been collaborating on a new hygiene initiative to help ensure students have access to essential care items at no cost.
Through this effort, students of all ages can access hygiene essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, body cleansing cloths, hairbrushes, and feminine products available as needed with no questions asked in Miss Phoenix’s office.
We would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Sidney Federal Credit Union (Hancock branch) for their generous donation of individual hygiene items and for partnering with Hancock Central School to support our students. Their collaboration helps us continue meeting the basic needs of our school community.
Thank you for helping us care for our Wildcats!

Last week, several of our high school students visited the elementary school to spend time playing with our younger Wildcats! 12th graders Autumn Dohanic, Stevie Woodmansee, and Gwyneth Nebzydoski joined the elementary boys and girls in the gymnasium for some fun and games.
Thank you for stopping by and making the day extra special for our students!

This week we are proud to recognize Social Worker Week and the important role school social workers play in supporting our students and school community.
At Hancock Central School, we would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Phoenix for everything she does for our students each and every day. Her kindness, support, and dedication help make a positive difference in the lives of so many of our Wildcats.
Thank you, Ms. Phoenix, for the care and compassion you bring to HCS!

A big thank you to the The Arc of Delaware County for graciously hosting our students during a recent field trip!
Our students had a wonderful experience learning more about the important work you do to support individuals and families in our community. Today, they proudly wore the shirts given to them by the ARC during their trip, showing their appreciation and excitement for the day!
We truly appreciate the time, effort, and hospitality shown to our group. Thank you for providing such a meaningful and memorable opportunity for our students!
Our UPK and Kindergarten students recently enjoyed reading Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss as part of our reading activities. To make the story come to life, Mrs. Hull brought in real green eggs and ham for the students to try!
Students were excited to taste the famous dish from the story, and it turns out that more students liked the green eggs and ham than those who didn’t. It was a fun and memorable way to connect reading with a hands-on experience.
Great job to our young readers for being brave and giving something new a try!
