Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Dufton’s 5th graders recently explored the science of buoyancy through a hands-on engineering challenge. Using aluminum foil, students designed and built boats, then tested their creations by adding pennies to see how much weight each boat could hold before sinking.
This activity allowed students to apply concepts of design, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry while learning how shape and structure affect an object’s ability to float. A great example of learning by doing!
The Deposit-Hancock Field Hockey team earned a dominant 7-0 shutout win over Newark Valley on Friday in Deposit for a Section IV non-division victory!
Scoring highlights included:
• Aubrey Smith – 2 goals, 1 assist
• Nora Bartholomew – 2 goals
• Victoria Green – 1 goal, 1 assist
• Gwyn Nebzydoski – 1 goal, 1 assist
• Leah Braun – 1 goal
