Yesterday, our Hancock Central School students joined hundreds of peers from across the region at the Southern Tier Construction-Technology Career Day, hosted by Broome-Tioga BOCES.
This immersive event, a partnership among NYS Department of Transportation, Broome County Highway, Broome-Tioga Workforce NY, BOCES’ Career Development Center, and others, drew nearly 600 high school students eager to explore hands-on career opportunities in trades and technology.
What Students Experienced
Operating construction machinery, testing their skills under supervision
Learning from and interacting with industry professionals across multiple trades
Some BOCES students got to teach younger visitors how to use equipment and share insights about trade careers
Why This Matters
With high demand for skilled trades and technical roles, events like this are critical for guiding students toward meaningful careers.
By giving students access to equipment, real-world simulation, and industry connections in one dynamic setting, the Career Day encourages exploration and empowers their next steps.
A huge THANK YOU to Broome-Tioga BOCES, all event partners, industry representatives, and volunteers who made this valuable learning experience possible! Your dedication helps shape the next generation of builders, creators, and innovators.
