How Hancock is battling Coronavirus

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Recent developments with regard to the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic have heightened awareness and discussion of school and public health issues. In Hancock, providing a safe and nurturing educational environment for all students, employees and community members is our top priority!

To ensure maximum health and safety for all stakeholders, the following precautionary measures have been implemented:

Informational Letters/Handouts: The district has mailed various letters and supporting handouts to parents/guardians of Hancock students. These also have been posted on our website (www.hancock.stier.org) and shared on our social media pages (Facebook and Twitter).

Building Cleaning/Maintenance: Our Board of Education has implemented emergency purchasing to expedite our ability to stock and warehouse treated disinfectant cleaning supplies. Additionally, our cleaning and maintenance staff frequently wipe down doorknobs, desktops, and common sitting/standing areas with treated cloths every day.

Handwashing/Sanitizing: Hand-sanitizing gel is widely available throughout the district. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are strongly encouraged to use hand sanitizers and frequently wash their hands in an effort to maintain personal hygiene. Informational flyers are posted in all restrooms and common areas throughout the district.

Community Distancing: All stakeholders are to exercise caution and good judgement with regard to respecting acceptable personal space between people, especially in large group settings.

In addition to the above-mentioned practices, the district vigilantly maintains proactive relationships with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Delaware County Delaware County Public Health Services, various mental health organizations, as well as local law-enforcement agencies.

The nurses offices at Hancock Elementary School and Hancock Central School (middle/high school) are also reliable sources for up-to-date information on the Coronavirus pandemic, as is the Coronavirus Information page on our district website (www.hancock.stier.org/CoronavirusInformation.aspx).

Most important, it is our deeply held belief that the use of common sense as it pertains to managing personal health and hygiene is the first and best approach to successfully combating the Coronavirus.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the Hancock Central School District. It is my sincere pleasure to serve all members of our school district community.

Sincerely,

Terrance P. Dougherty, Ph.D
