Laycee Drake and Ariel Kellam (5/2020)

Hancock junior Laycee Drake and senior Ariel Kellam have earned all-state honors for the 2019-2020 girls basketball season, the New York State Sportswriters Association announced Thursday evening.

The two led the Deposit/Hancock girls basketball team to the Midstate Athletic Conference championship, an appearance in the Section 4 Class C semifinals and a 21-2 overall record this past season.

Laycee made the NYSSWA’s All-State Class C First Team for the second consecutive season after averaging 25 points, 11.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 4.6 steals and 1.5 blocks. She is a four-time all-state selection, preceding her back-to-back Class C First Team honors with Class D accolades following her freshman (Second Team) and eighth-grade (Eighth Team) varsity seasons.

The all-state selection marks Laycee’s third major high school basketball award for the 2019-2020 season as she was named Section 4 Class C Player of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York and MVP of the MAC earlier this year. Laycee will enter her senior season with 1,780 varsity points, a Hancock record regardless of gender.

Ariel earned a Class C all-state honorable mention from the NYSSWA. She averaged 14.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.0 blocks for the Eagles en route to her first all-state selection.

The two were coached by Scott Young, recognized by the BCANY as its Section 4 Class C Coach of the Year for 2019-2020.
