Important Message: Momo Challenge
February 28, 2019
Dear parents, guardians and community members,

We would like you to know about the Momo Challenge and how to protect your family from this alarming social media challenge targeting children and young adults.

This challenge surfaced in other communities several months ago and has caused concern among schools and parents across the country because of its disturbing nature.

The Momo Challenge is a game found on social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp. An image of a young, thin, bird-like woman is shown while audio of a child’s voice plays. The voiceover threatens to hurt viewers, who may then receive text/social media messages on their phones or other devices. These messages threaten more harm unless recipients complete a set of increasingly dangerous tasks – sometimes in school settings – and provide photos as proof. There is an ongoing debate as to whether this is a hoax or real.

Our administration and staff work closely with our technology specialists to address Internet safety and appropriate use of technology, and we will continue to do so regarding this challenge. We also encourage you to talk to your kids, monitor their internet/social media use, and remind them not to accept invitations to play online games from unknown people/numbers.
