Ostrander, Evanitsky lead Hancock’s Class of 2019

Hancock High School Valedictorian Riley Ostrander and Salutatorian Erin Evanitsky will highlight the Class of 2019 Graduation Ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the Hancock Middle School/High School Auditorium.

The Hancock Central School District honored Riley and Erin as the Class of 2019’s top two academic students during its annual Senior Banquet, which took place May 22 at the Hancock High School cafeteria.

Valedictorian Riley Ostrander

The daughter of Eric and Tracie Ostrander of Hancock, Riley served Hancock High School as President of Student Council and a class officer. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, varsity tennis and varsity field hockey.

Riley also attended Empire Girls State and received the Bausch and Lomb Award and an Honorary Science Award.

“You will be too much for some people,” Riley told her peers. “Those aren’t your people.”

Riley will attend Le Moyne College and St. Joseph’s for nursing, with the goal of becoming a doctor of nursing.

Salutatorian Erin Evanitsky

The daughter of Randy and Bridget Evanitsky of Lakewood, Pennsylvania, Erin also earned membership in the National Honor Society and attended Empire Girls State.

Erin played field hockey and softball, earning Scholar-Athlete honors from the Midstate Athletic Conference in the latter. Also recognized with a Young Leader Award, Erin received another award for her essay, “What America Means to Me.”

Erin advises the Class of 2020 to “Make the most of your time at school while you can.”

She plans to join the Army and become an Animal Care Specialist.
