The Deposit-Hancock baseball and softball teams have earned first-round byes for their respective Section IV Class D tournaments and will both host quarterfinals early next week.
Baseball
Midstate Athletic Conference champion Deposit-Hancock (17-0) is the No. 1 seed for the Section IV Class D Baseball Tournament and will host a quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. Monday (May 23) at Deposit. The Eagles’ opponent will be No. 8 seed Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs (4-4) of the Tri-Valley League, which advanced to the quarterfinals via forfeit by ninth-seeded Downsville.
Sectional semifinals are set for 4:30 p.m. May 25 at the higher seed’s home field. Semifinal winners will advance to the sectional championship game at 4:30 p.m. May 27 at Sidney High School.
Delaware League champion South Kortright/Andes (13-1) is the No. 2 seed for the nine-team tournament. The D-H Eagles won the MAC title game, 1-0, over Class B Greene/Oxford on May 12.
Softball
Deposit-Hancock (11-6) is the No. 2 seed for the Section IV Class D Softball Tournament and will host a quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday (May 24) at Deposit. The Eagles’ opponent will be the winner of this Thursday’s first-round game between No. 10 seed Laurens (8-6) and No. 7 seed Morris/Edmeston (10-5), who are Tri-Valley League rivals.
Sectional semifinals are set for 4:30 p.m. May 26 at the higher seed’s home field. Semifinal winners will advance to the sectional championship game May 28 (time TBA) at the BAGSAI Complex next to SUNY Broome.
Delaware League champion Roxbury (12-1) is the top seed for the 12-team tournament. The D-H Eagles fell to Greene, 2-1, in the MAC title game May 12. Greene (18-0) is the No. 1 seed for the Section 4 Class C Tournament.
