Caden Fortunato struck out nine in a no-hitter Friday as top-seeded D-H cruised to an 11-0 title win over No. 3 seed Afton at Sidney. Fortunato scored three times, Blake Fortunato had three hits and Wyatt Jacobs contributed a pair of hits for the Eagles, who put up nine runs in the sixth for their third straight sectional shutout.
The Midstate Athletic Conference champions outscored their three sectional opponents, 32-0, en route to a state-tournament appearance. Pitchers Caden Fortunato and Chris Gross combined for 34 strikeouts during the sectional run, allowing a total of four hits in victories over Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs (13-0), Edmeston/Morris (8-0) and Afton (11-0).
The Class D state semifinals are set for 2 & 5 p.m. June 10 at SUNY Broome, with the championship game to follow at 4 p.m. June 11 at Binghamton University.
