Eagles look to go 2-for-2 Saturday
Baseball and softball sectionals (6/2022)

The Deposit-Hancock Eagles’ baseball and softball teams will play Class D state quarterfinals back-to-back this Saturday at Union-Endicott! Baseball starts at 1 p.m., followed by softball at 3 p.m.

D-H fans who want to see both games won’t have to go far as U-E’s baseball and softball fields are right next to each other. The Eagles will be the home teams for both quarterfinals, according to brackets listed on the New York State Public High School Athletic Association website.

Tickets may be purchased on site (cash only; $9 ages 11-64; $7 ages 65+). Youths ages 10-and-younger will be admitted for free.
 
Baseball
The Section IV Class D and Midstate Athletic Conference champion D-H baseball team (20-0) will face Section III winner Morrisville-Eaton (16-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union-Endicott.

D-H was the top seed for the Section IV Class D Tournament and no-hit No. 3 seed Afton in an 11-0 title victory this past Friday at Sidney High School.

The Warriors were the fourth seed for the Section III Class D Tournament and upset No. 2 seed Oriskany, 3-2, in Tuesday’s championship game at Onondaga Community College.

This Saturday’s winner will advance to a state semifinal at 2 p.m. June 10 at SUNY Broome. The Class D state championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. June 11 at Binghamton University.

Softball
The Section IV Class D champion and Midstate Athletic Conference runner-up D-H softball team (14-6) will face Section IX winner Eldred (12-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Union-Endicott.

D-H was the No. 2 seed for the Section IV Class D Tournament and rolled to a 19-4 victory over top-seeded Roxbury this past Saturday at the BAGSAI Complex next to SUNY Broome. The Eagles have been ranked first in the state in Class D by the New York State Sportswriters Association all season.

The Yellow Jackets were the top seed for the Section IX Class D Tournament and beat No. 2 seed Livingston Manor, 8-0, in Sunday’s championship game at Middletown High School. Eldred and Livingston Manor were the only two teams in the Section IX Class D Tournament. Eldred enters the state quarterfinals ranked fourth in Class D by the NYSSWA.

Saturday’s winner will advance to a state semifinal at 11:15 a.m. June 11 at the Moriches Softball Complex, which also will host the Class D state championship game at 3:45 p.m. the same day.
