Let’s hear it for Brenna, Kelsey & baseball!

Hancock students clap out

Hancock got into the spring sports spirit Thursday afternoon with an end-of-the-school-day “Clap Out” for juniors Brenna Gleim and Kelsey Young, as well as Hancock's representatives on the Deposit/Hancock baseball team.

Brenna qualified for her second state tournament of the 2018-2019 academic year by shooting a 104 during the Section 4 State Qualifier for girls golf May 21 at Soaring Eagles Golf Course in Horseheads.

Also a state qualifier in bowling this past winter, Brenna will compete at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Golf Championships as part of an eight-player team from Section 4. Deerfield Country Club in Brockport will host the event Saturday and Sunday (June 1-2).

Kelsey earned a spot in the Section 4 Track and Field State Qualifier by winning the Class D 2,000-meter steeplechase May 22 at Marathon. Kelsey is seeking her second trip to a state meet this academic year as she finished 10th in the NYSPHSAA Class D Cross Country Championships in November. Union-Endicott hosted the Section 4 Track and Field State Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday (May 29-30).

Also, the Deposit/Hancock baseball team defeated fifth-seeded Lansing, 5-0, on Wednesday (May 29) in a Section 4 Class C semifinal at Sidney. The top-seeded Eagles, who won the Class D state title last season, advanced to Friday’s championship game against No. 2 seed Tioga at Binghamton University.

Game time is 4 or 4:30 p.m. Friday (May 31). Admission is $7 for ages 11-64 and $5 for 65+. Children ages 10 and younger will be admitted for free.
