D-H wins sectional softball crown!

Congratulations to the Deposit-Hancock softball team, which won the Section IV Class D softball title Saturday – one day after D-H did the same in baseball!

Riley Martin homered twice and Kaitlyn Macumber homered to lead the second-seeded Eagles to a 19-4 triumph over top-seeded Roxbury at the BAGSAI Complex next to SUNY Broome. D-H jumped to a 12-0 lead en route to its second straight sectional crown – the Eagles won the Class C title last year – for another state-tournament berth.

The state’s top-ranked Class D softball team outscored its three sectional opponents, 46-6, as the Eagles followed an 8-1 quarterfinal defeat of Edmeston/Morris with a 19-1 rout of Marathon and Saturday’s 19-4 victory.

D-H will play the Section IX champion in a Class D state quarterfinal at 3 p.m. June 4 at Union-Endicott, according to brackets posted on the NYSPHSAA website at https://nysphsaa.org/sports/2022/4/6/Softball%20Brackets.aspx. That’s great news for D-H fans as the baseball team will play its state quarterfinal at 1 p.m. the same day at the same place (June 4 at U-E).

The Moriches Softball Complex will host the Class D softball state semifinals and championship on June 11. Semifinals will start at 11:15 a.m. June 11, with the title game to follow at 3:45 p.m.
