Makowski Jr., Hunt highlight Class of 2021

The Hancock Central School District is proud to recognize Michael Makowski Jr. as valedictorian and Ethan Hunt as salutatorian for its Class of 2021, which will graduate together during an in-person ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 25 on the high school football field.

Hancock’s 2021 Graduation Ceremony will be an invitation-only event. Those who attend must follow all of the COVID-19 protocols and procedures that are in place on June 25. In the event of poor weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26. More details are forthcoming.

Hancock Class of 2021 Valedictorian Michael Makowski Jr. has made the most of his high school experience with a well-rounded resume that includes a wide variety of success in academics and extracurricular activities.

Hancock’s recipient of the 2021 Akshar All-Star Award, Michael also earned Business and Education Partnership Scholar Recognition from ceremony co-sponsors DCMO BOCES and SUNY Oneonta as well as the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award for outstanding achievement and superior intellectual promise in the field of science from the University of Rochester.

A Class Officer for the last four years, Michael has been part of Student Council, YES Leads, Church group and varsity athletics since his freshman year, maintaining a perfect school attendance record throughout. A two-year member of the National Honor Society, Michael has lettered in four varsity sports (baseball, 4 years; basketball, 3 years; golf, 3 years; football, 1 year) and has been an annual community volunteer for the Perfectly Priced Shop, the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and the Deposit-Hancock Wrestling Tournament.

Other school-related activities include three years of chorus, three years in Spanish Club and one year as a key member of the Yearbook Club. He also gained work experience as an employee at Makowski Wildlife Food Plots and Camp French Woods.

Michael is the son of Michael and Kim Makowski of Hancock. He plans to major in Civil Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

Hancock Class of 2021 Salutatorian Ethan Hunt is a musically and athletically gifted scholar who also has thrived in a plethora of areas while earning election as Class Officer in all four years of high school.

A regular on Hancock honor rolls since his freshman year, Ethan won the George Eastman Young Leaders Award for outstanding academic achievement and leadership from the University of Rochester.

Ethan’s four varsity seasons as a key member of the Deposit-Hancock baseball, basketball and football teams coincide with four years in the Hancock Central School Band. He also participated in chorus for three years and appeared in annual school plays and musicals as a sophomore and junior.

Also a two-year member of the National Honor Society, Ethan has served two years on Student Council, dedicated time during his senior year to the Yearbook Club, and has work experience as an employee of Capra Enterprises Laundry Service.

Ethan is the son of Jason Hunt and Karen Mech of Equinunk, Pennsylvania. He will attend Alfred State and major in Engineering.
