Asbestos removal to begin Monday

CAPITAL PROJECT UPDATE | April 8, 2021
Notices regarding the asbestos-removal phase of the Hancock Central School District’s 2021 Capital Project have been posted at all building entrances of the Hancock Middle School/High School and Bus Garage.

Hancock MS/HSIn accordance with standard operating procedures, environmental contractors are required to post notices at all building entrances where asbestos removal will be performed at least 10 days before the start of abatement activities. A representative for Neoplanta Restoration, Inc. posted the notices for HCSD buildings on April 1.

Asbestos removal from the Hancock MS/HS exterior will take place from April 12-16 after students are dismissed from school. Caulk containing asbestos will be removed from the masonry niches located on both sides of the MS/HS main entrance during this minor removal project, which does not require containment nor air sampling.

Asbestos removal, which also will take place at the Bus Garage on the same dates, will be supervised by C&S Companies Construction Manager Ethan Gardner and a New York State certified Air Monitor from Atlantic Environmental Consulting. The latter will ensure that all state regulations related to asbestos removal are followed. AEC also will confirm the complete removal and cleanup of all asbestos-containing caulk.
