In-person Budget Vote set for May 18

The 2021-2022 Hancock Central School District Budget Vote will run from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, in Room 203 of Hancock Central School. Budget voting will be in person this year. HCSD’s proposed 2021-2022 budget of $11,727,635 reflects a tax levy increase of 1.24 percent, which is below the allowable cap.

HCSD Budget Flyer Cover (2021-2022)Hancock residents will vote on the following propositions:
Proposition 1, HCSD Budget: Shall the Board of Education of the Hancock Central School District be authorized to expend a sum not to exceed $11,727,635 for the fiscal year 2021-2022 and to levy the necessary tax for the local contribution thereto?

Proposition 2, Library Budget: Shall the budget for the Louise Adelia Read Memorial Library in the amount of $87,895 for the fiscal year 2021-2022 be approved and the Board of Education of the Hancock Central School District be authorized to levy the necessary tax for the local contribution thereto?

Proposition 3, Buses: Shall the Board of Education be authorized to expend from the Capital Reserve Fund (transportation), last authorized by the voters in May 2017 and May 2019, a sum not to exceed a total of $250,000 for the purchases of two 65-passenger Type C buses and one 28-passenger bus Type A bus?

Proposition 4, Establish Capital Reserve Fund: Shall the Board of Education establish a Capital Reserve Fund under the provisions of Education Law 3651(I)? The purpose of the fund is for construction, repair, and reconstruction of capital improvements and the acquisition of equipment. The ultimate amount of the fund shall be $500,000. The probable term shall be 5 years. The source from which funds will be obtained can include any or all of the following: unappropriated fund balances from the general fund as determined by the Board of Education, state aid related to expenditures from the capital reserve fund, interest income related to investment of monies in the fund, and any other additional monies thereafter authorized by the voters of the District or as otherwise may be lawfully approved.

Voting also will take place for Board of Education candidates Christopher Geer Sr. and Rebecca Smith, as well as Louise Adelia Read Memorial Library Board of Trustees candidate Joshua Roenfeldt. All three are running unopposed.
